New Uzbekistan University to Lead Nationwide AI Education Reform
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced a groundbreaking initiative during his recent meeting with youth, positioning New Uzbekistan University (NewUU) at the forefront of a national effort to revolutionize computer science and artificial intelligence (AI) education in schools across Uzbekistan.
Transforming Education with Global Expertise
In a bold step toward aligning the national education system with global technological advancements, the President highlighted that the Ministry of Preschool and School Education will update the school curriculum based on an artificial intelligence education program developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
This forward-looking curriculum aims to equip future generations with essential AI competencies, empowering them to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
NewUU as a National Training Hub for AI Education
As part of the reform, New Uzbekistan University will serve as the central training hub for implementing this AI-focused curriculum.
• This year, 100 computer science teachers from each region of Uzbekistan will undergo intensive training at NewUU.
• These participants will become mentor teachers, tasked with training their colleagues through a cascading model over the next two years.
• By the end of this cycle, all 19,500 computer science teachers across the country will be trained in the new AI curriculum.
This ambitious strategy ensures rapid and sustainable capacity-building across the entire education system.

About the Program
The AI curriculum—developed by MIT, one of the world’s leading institutions in technology and innovation—will introduce students to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, and ethical tech use, tailored to the needs of Uzbekistan’s education system.
NewUU’s faculty and partners will work closely with experts to localize the content, deliver practical training, and ensure long-term effectiveness in classrooms nationwide.
